Berea Recreation Water Exercise Instructor
Job Description

  • Job Summary
    • Responsible for the instruction of water exercise classes and the safety of those taking the classes.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Current certifications in the following:
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid
    • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED
    • Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
  • Responsibilities
    • Complete additional training and orientation required of instructors.
    • Set up before and clean up after aerobics classes.
    • Education of participants in advantages and disadvantages of an exercise program: age, shape, body type.
    • Be ENTHUSIASTIC. Communicate to the participants in a loud, clear voice and give clear, concise instructions.
    • Be sensitive to the needs of the guests in the class. Some will be in attendance for medical reasons, other may have medical needs.
    • Be knowledgeable of the various conditions associated with senior adults, pregnant women, cardiovascular problems, etc.
    • Must be in the water at all times.
    • Be creative, adding new and improved classes.
    • Responsible To Aquatic Director, Facility Director, or Assistant Director

Certified Lifeguards and Water Aerobic Instructors

The Berea Recreation Center is looking for certified Lifeguards and Water Aerobic Instructors for early morning and afternoon shifts. We are also looking for evening Swim Lesson instructors. Aerobic/Fitness Instructors

The City of Berea is looking for part time aerobics/fitness instructors to teach various classes for kids, adults and seniors.

Child Care Workers Wanted

The City of Berea is looking for part time employees to work in the child care room at the Berea Recreation Center. Some experience or formal education in early childhood development is preferred. Teens applying should have completed Red Cross babysitting course or its equivalent.

Must be able to pass a background check.

Applications are kept on file for six (6) months. Applicants are responsible for notifying the Personnel Administrator of any changes in their address and/or telephone number.

You may attach a resume to your application, however, a resume, alone, is insufficient. Do not state your age, race, color or religion anywhere on the application and/or resume.

When a full time, non-management position becomes available, notice is first given to employees of the City of Berea. Existing employees are given advance notice in the event they wish to apply to transfer. If a suitable candidate is not found internally, the Department Director will ask the Personnel Administrator for a list of candidates who have applied for a similar position during the preceding six months. If additional candidates are desired, a notice will be posted on the City’s web site, on cable television, and on the City Hall lobby bulletin board. The Department Director may also request that the position be advertised in additional outlets.

Occasionally, the City of Berea has a need for temporary help — especially in the Service and Recreation Departments. These positions are generally of short duration, lasting no more than three or four months. The pay range is usually between minimum wage and $7.50 per hour.
